SAWC Board Members
for 2007-2008

Shana Almeida (Vice Chair) has a background in anti-racism work and a Master of Social Work. She is dedicated, honest and energetic. Her commitment to SAWC is unstinting and supportive. Shana brings a world of experience that is both political and analytical.

Gayathri Sriram (Treasurer) SAWC’s treasurer is a professional and experienced financial person. Her work in the private sector, and her professional financial skills and expertise provide SAWC with a sound financial grounding. Gayathri is a real asset and has proven valuable in SAWC’s financial leadership.

Tania Hassan (Secretary) is a young, energetic woman who is committed to the issues of South Asian women. She is originally from Bangladesh and works to promote the well being of the community.

Manivillie Kanagasabapathy, young, vibrant, energetic and actively chairs the fundraising committee of the board. A community leader, Manivillie is very committed to SAWC.

Tsering Norzom, president of the Tibetan Women’s Association, Tsering works as a Settlement Counsellor at the Kababayyan Community Centre. Tsering has a Masters degree in Political Science, and is a strong advocate for her community.

Nira Sharma has extensive experience in health and works as a Policy Advisor with Health force Ontario. She is an immigrant from Nepal, Nira is a strong advocate for the issues related to newcomers in Canada.

Raj Sabharwal has joined the board this year, but has already added value to the financial management of the agency. She is a Certified Management Accountant with significant experience in Audit and Finance, and works for the Ontario Energy Board.

Gopa Chakravarthy has been involved with SAWC for many years. She is a Homeopathic doctor by profession. Gopa has sat on many boards and runs a non profit agency in India to help reduce poverty in the villages of West Bengal.
