We empower women to develop their social and cultural potential.

The South Asian Women's Centre empowers women through diverse programs, fostering self-awareness and cultural growth in a supportive environment for all ages and backgrounds. The South Asian Women’s Centre (SAWC) is about more than helping women in need isolated by linguistic challenges. It’s about more than helping women escape domestic violence and relationships with power dynamics due to immigration status. It’s about community. It’s about saying to South Asian women across the GTA: you’re welcome in Canada and we’ve got your back.

Empowering women to develop their social and cultural potential

The South Asian Women’s Centre, established in 1982 as the South Asian Women’s Group, has been dedicated to supporting women and their families for over four decades. Initially located at Bloor St W and Lansdowne Ave, the Centre moved to its current address at Dupont St and Lansdowne Ave in 2007. This relocation also marked an expansion of services to include Portuguese and Hispanic women.

Currently, the Centre handles approximately 17,000 client visits annually and hosts three wellness and seniors’ groups. For residents in Scarborough, services are also available through the Feed Scarborough location at Warden Ave and Eglinton Ave E.

With a multilingual staff that supports clients in 14 languages, the Centre offers a diverse range of services aimed at enhancing the lives of women and their families. The Centre deeply appreciates the contributions of its volunteers and is supported by a generous network of donors who make its work possible.
